The Riverfield Academy Raiders will be in action tomorrow night when they take on the St. Aloysius Flash in Vicksburg.
The game will be the most important game of the season for the Raiders this far. Both Riverfield and St. Aloysius are 3-0 in district play and the winner of Friday night’s game will claim the district championship. Not only that, but it will be critical in how the Raiders are seeded in MAIS 3A playoff action which begins next week.
The Raiders had an open date last Friday and have had two weeks to prepare for this Friday’s game. The open date has given them some extra time to recover from some injuries. The Raider coaching staff feels the extra recovery and preparation time will be beneficial to the team in tomorrow night’s matchup.
Head Coach Boyd Cole had these comments on Monday morning: “This is going to be a big game for us. St. Al is undefeated in district and so are we. I normally don’t like open dates but we were pretty banged up and hopefully we have recovered. Don’t let St. Al’s record deceive you because they have played a very tough non-district schedule. They have a good football team but so do we. It’s going to take a good ball game from all our players and coaches. We cannot turn the ball over and we have to maintain control of the ball. Come out and support your Raiders this week at St. Aloysius. We always outdraw the opposing team, let’s do it one more time. Thanks for all your support this season.”
Even though this past Friday was an open date for the Raiders, there was some action in Raider Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The varsity cheerleaders sponsored a Powder Puff game at 2 in the afternoon. The entire student body and many parents came out to watch Coach Cole’s girls in blue challenge Coach Stracener’s girls in red. After some fast and hard hitting action in the hour long contest, the girls in blue came out on top 16-0. It was a great game and a lot of fun.
Hey, all you Raiders fans, see ya tomorrow at St. Aloysius in Vicksburg. Let’s cheer the 2015 Raider football team to a district championship. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
