“Go Back In Time” and learn about an ancient culture, the Poverty Point inhabitants, that once lived in Northeast Louisiana over 3,500 years ago and how they developed and created implements, they used in their everyday lives in order to survive.
The program will be held form 1-4 p.m. Dec. 4, with demonstrations beginning on the hour.
On Dec. 10, visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in a ranger-led hike which will directly engage hikers with the mounds, earthworks, and nature found in the park. Beginning at 10 a.m. in the museum, there will be an introductory video, followed by the 1-2 hour hike (depending on the pace of the group).
The ranger leading the hike will discuss what is known about the mounds, the people who built them, and the local flora and fauna which would have sustained the Native Americans. Be aware that this event is weather permitting.
The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum, film theatre, hiking trail, driving tour, tram tour (when in season), and any interpretive events taking place at the site. Children (12 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free of charge.
