Visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in a ranger-led cooking demonstration using acorns which would have been an important part of the Native American diet at Poverty Point 3500 years ago.
The ranger will explain how the acorns were processed to make them edible and show visitors how the acorns may have been cooked at the site.
Curious guests are more than welcome to have a taste of the cooked acorn products after they are prepared. The event will take place at noon Nov. 12
The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum, film theatre, hiking trail, driving tour, tram tour, and any interpretive events taking place at the site.
Children (12 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free of charge.
For additional information, call 888.926.5292 toll free or 926.5492 locally or follow Poverty Point World Heritage Site on Facebook.
