Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson would like to remind all citizens of Rayville that it is important to cooperate with a police officer during a traffic stop, an arrest or an investigation.

“If you are pulled over on a traffic stop, provide the officer with any documents he requests,” the chief said. “If you happen to be arrested, it’s important that you comply fully with the officer’s instructions.”

He advised failure to cooperate with an officer who is in the process of an arrest or investigation could lead to additional charges.

“Giving false information during an arrest or investigation is also a crime,” the chief said. “So if you are questioned during an arrest or investigation, just be truthful and be cooperative.”

Chief Robinson would also like to remind all citizens of the importance of showing up for court when you are scheduled to be there.

“When you are arrested or when you are given a traffic citation, the officer will also give you a court date,” he said. “If you do not pay your fine before that date, you must appear in court. If you don’t appear in court, a bench warrant will be issued for failure to appear.”

Chief Robinson advised that failure to appear in court results in additional fines and could lead to incarceration as well.

Chief Robinson encourages all citizens to come by the Rayville Police Department at 900 Harrison St. or to call 728-4431 if you need his help in any way.
